Non-existent enforcement of traffic rules

Contributed by Lim Tua Bah

Besides a declining public transport service, enforcement on Singapore's roads are also increasingly becoming slack. Driver and motorcyclists weave in and out of traffic causing accidents. Aunties are driving in the fastest lanes on the highways but can hardly reach the speed limit. Goods and services vehicles clog up the middle lane. Tailgating and forcing people off the roads are prevalent.

There is almost no sight of Traffic Police and LTA road wardens to ease traffic flow whatsoever. Rules are being flouted with no punishment. Why are citizens paying road taxes and other taxes for these inept services?

It used to be that heavily modified cars are clamped down by the Traffic Police. But now they not only drive recklessly but they create so much noise at night with their souped up exhaust. Even more loud and screeching are motorcycles tearing through the night. There is absolutely no enforcement whatsoever. The quality of life in HDB estates is being cheapen.

Look at these car plates, they are so small that even an adult with good eyesight has problems reading them. What if one of them is involve in a hit-and-run accident?

The problems are prevalent and yet the enforcement agencies are doing nothing.

  1. Yes, your observations are spot on. What happened? Nobody is enforcing. I hope that we do not degenrate into a "lawless society" just because "these law officers" are as they say in Malay "gagi-butah". Will the Minister wake up their officers!
