Great Romance Singapore style

Contributed by reader Calvin C

Howard Shaw, the scion of the prominent Shaw family, has pleaded guilty to paying for sex with an underaged prostitute. He faces a maximum incarceration term of seven years and a fine. Shaw, 41 years old, is married to Jessie Xue, 26, a director in a company and former pageant contestant. Shaw had met Xue when he was a trainer and judge for Miss Earth where Xue was contesting.

Xue is supposedly from China and had graduated from a local polytechnic sometime in 2004. Thereafter, she worked as an operating theatre nurse in a local hospital. She was also a part-time model and was featured in local men's magazine FHM in 2007. The couple got married last November and appeared on the cover of local high-society magazine Singapore Tatler in February for a feature on "Great Romances".

This is Shaw's second marriage and he was said to have divorced his ex-wife about seven years ago and they have two daughters aged 11 and nine. It is unknown if Shaw had divorced his first wife to marry Jessie Xue.

Contrary to what the public perceives, friends of the former Singapore Environment Council (SEC) executive director vouch that Shaw is down-to-earth and passionate in driving various environmental movements. When contacted, the Shaw organisation spokesman said, "He is not a staff of Shaw Organisation and the organisation has nothing to do with his personal affairs."

Jessie Xue continues to stand by her man and has accompanied him to court trials.
